Installing MX960 AC Power Cord Locks

This topic describes how to install AC power cord locks on an MX960 router with high-capacity AC power supplies. The cord lock kit (part number: PWR-MX960-CBL-LCK-KIT) contains the following items:

  • Four power cord locks with preinstalled clamp screws
  • Eight 3-mm screws
  • Four split washers

Follow this procedure to install a power cord lock on the MX960 Power Distribution Module (PDM). This operation can be performed while the router is operating.

Caution: If you are using a nonredundant configuration, turning off a power supply may result in insufficient power for the router to operate properly.

Table 1: Cable Lock Installation Sequence

Install cord lock on the PDM above PEM slot 0 if present. If empty, skip to next slot.

Install cord lock on the PDM above PEM slot 1 if present. If empty, skip to next slot.

Install cord lock on the PDM above PEM slot 2 if present. If empty, skip to next slot.

Install cord lock on the PDM above PEM slot 3 if present.

Cord lock Installation complete.

  1. See Table 1 for the proper sequence to install the cord locks. Starting with the PDM power cord above PEM 0, move the AC input switch on the PDM to the off (O) position.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source receptacle.
  3. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the receptacle on the PDM.
  5. Remove the screw on both sides of the PDM power receptacle.
  6. Orient the cord lock as shown in Figure 1. Fasten the cord lock with two 3-mm screws and split washers.

  7. Insert the power cord into the cord lock as shown in Figure 2. Secure the cord lock by tightening the cord lock screw.
  8. Route the power cord as shown in Figure 2. Dress the power cords appropriately. Verify that the power cord does not block the air exhaust and access to router components, and that they do not drape where people could trip on them.

  9. Plug the power cord into the power source receptacle.
  10. Move the AC input switch on the PDM to the on (|) position
  11. Repeat this procedure for the other three power receptacles.
