The line cards in EX8200 switches combine a Packet Forwarding Engine and Ethernet interfaces on a single assembly. They are field-replaceable units (FRUs) that can be installed in the line card slots on the front of the switch chassis. The line cards are hot-insertable and hot-removable: You can remove and replace them without powering off the switch or disrupting switch functions. See Figure 1.

Table 1 shows the model numbers, descriptions of the line card models, the Junos OS release in which the models were released, the release in which support on EX8200 Virtual Chassis was introduced, and the release in which Virtual Chassis Port (VCP) support was introduced for ports on the line card.
Table 1: 8-port SFP+ Line Card Models
Model | Description | Junos OS Release Required | Support on EX8200 Virtual Chassis | EX8200 Virtual Chassis Port (VCP) Support |
|---|---|---|---|---|
EX8200-8XS | 8-port SFP+ line card | 9.4R1 or later | 10.4R1 | 10.4R1 |
EX8200-8XS-ES | Extra-scale 8-port SFP+ line card Note: The extra-scale model provides larger IPv4 and IPv6 route table sizes than the non-extra-scale models to store more unicast routes. | 11.1R1 or later | 11.4R1 | 11.4R1 |
![]() | Note: We recommend that you do not install extra-scale line card models and non-extra-scale models in the same switch or Virtual Chassis. If you install extra-scale line cards in a switch or Virtual Chassis that has non-extra-scale models installed, the IPv4 and IPv6 route table sizes default to those of the non-extra-scale models and you will not get the benefit of the increased table sizes of the extra-scale models. You will experience these decreased route table sizes in a Virtual Chassis even when the non-extra-scale line cards are installed in one member switch and the extra-scale line cards are installed in another member switch. |
Both models of the 8-port SFP+ line card (see Figure 1) have:
![]() | Note: The 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports on the 8-port SFP+ line cards are the only ports that you can configure as Virtual Chassis port (VCP) links between EX8200 member switches in an EX8200 Virtual Chassis. You cannot configure ports on any other EX8200 line cards—including the 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports on the 40-port SFP+ line cards—as VCPs. See Setting a 10-Gigabit Ethernet Port as a Virtual Chassis Port in an EX8200 Virtual Chassis (CLI Procedure). |
