M320 Cabinet Size and Clearance Requirements

The minimum size enclosed cabinet that can accommodate the router is 600 mm wide and 800 mm deep. A cabinet larger than the minimum requirement provides better airflow and reduces the chance of overheating. To accommodate a single router, the cabinet must be at least 20 U (35 in. or 88.9 cm) high. If you provide adequate cooling air and airflow clearance, you can stack two routers in a cabinet that has at least 40 U (70 in. or 1.78 m) of usable vertical space.

The minimum front and rear clearance requirements depend on the mounting configuration you choose. The minimum total clearance inside the cabinet is 30.70 in. between the inside of the front door and the inside of the rear door. If you choose a front-mount installation, you must maintain clearance of 4.80 in. (122 mm) between the front-mounting flanges and the inside of the cabinet front door, and 25.90 in. (658 mm) between the front-mounting flanges and the inside of the cabinet rear door. If you choose an adjustable-mount installation using the mounting brackets, the clearance requirements depend on where you install the mounting brackets.

Table 1 provides the clearance requirements for each of the 11 mounting bracket positions on the side of the chassis (position 1 represents the mounting brackets installed closest to the front of the chassis; position 11 represents the mounting brackets installed closest to the rear of the chassis). The front clearance is measured between the front of the front rack rail and the inside of the cabinet front door. The rear clearance is measured between the front of the front rack rail and the inside of the cabinet rear door.
