JCS1200 Hardware Component Installation Checklist

Before you can use the JCS1200 platform, you must install and configure the required components in the platform. If you have not already done so, perform the activities on the following checklist:

  1. Set up the rack or cabinet in which you will install the JCS1200 platform. See JCS1200 Platform Rack-Mounting Hardware.
  2. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  3. Remove any modules that come installed in the platform to reduce the weight of the unit.
  4. Install the platform into the rack. See Installing the JCS1200 Platform Using a Lift.
  5. Reinstall the removed modules in the platform.

Note: Make sure that the JCS1200 platform has adequate power to support all of the installed components. The platform must contain either two or four power modules. See JCS1200 Platform Power Overview for more information.

  6. Install the required platform components.
  7. Supply power to the platform. See Connecting the JCS1200 AC Platform to AC Power or Connecting the JCS1200 DC Platform to DC Power for more information.
  8. Make sure that the latest level of firmware is installed on all of the components. See http://www.juniper.net/support/ for additional information.
  9. Configure the management module in the platform. For information and instructions, see the Junos OS Protected System Domain Configuration Guide PDF Document.
  10. Determine the platform configuration settings, such as the IP address, network address, and wake-on-LAN settings. For instructions for configuring an IP address, see the Junos OS Protected System Domain Configuration Guide.
  11. Configure the switch modules in the platform. For configuration information, see the Junos OS Protected System Domain Configuration Guide PDF Document.
  12. Configure the Routing Engines. For information and instructions, see the Junos OS Protected System Domain Configuration Guide PDF Document.
