M7i Chassis Description

The router chassis is a rigid sheet metal structure that houses the other hardware components. The chassis is 17.5 in. (44.5 cm) wide and 18 in. (45.7 cm) deep. The chassis height of 3.5 in. (8.9 cm) enables stacked installation of 21 M7i routers in a single floor-to-ceiling rack. For more information, see M7i Router Rack Requirements.

The two mounting brackets (one on each side) extend the chassis width to 19 in. (48.2 cm).

The chassis includes the following electrical safety components:

  • One electrostatic discharge (ESD) points (banana plug receptacles), at the front of the chassis, as shown in Figure 1.
  • Two internally threaded inserts providing grounding points for the router.

Warning: Before removing or installing components of a functioning router, attach an ESD strap to an ESD point and place the other end of the strap around your bare wrist. Failure to use an ESD strap could result in damage to the router.

The router must be connected to earth ground during normal operation.

For further safety information, see General Safety Guidelines for M Series, MX Series, and T Series Routers and General Safety Warnings for M Series, MX Series, and T Series Routers.

For chassis serial number information , see Displaying M7i Router Components and Serial Numbers.
