Strict source routing to specify the IP route for each
hop
Record route to track the route taken

Broadcast addressing, both limited broadcast and directed
broadcast
Support for 32,000 discrete, simultaneous IP interfaces
per router to support thousands of logical connections
Capability of detecting and reporting changes in the up
or down state of any IP interface
