Understanding Junos Space Support

The Juniper Networks Junos Space application, running on a JA1500 appliance or a Junos Space Virtual Appliance, is a comprehensive platform for building and deploying applications for collaboration, productivity, and network infrastructure and operations management. Junos Space provides a runtime environment implemented as a fabric of virtual and physical appliances.

The Junos Space software comprises various applications for network management and configuration. Starting with Junos Space Release 11.1, the following Junos Space applications provide support for the QFX Series:

  • Network Application Platform (Platform) automates network management operations, including device discovery and management, device templates for configuration, scripts management, image management, and SSH secure console.
  • Ethernet Design provides tools to simultaneously configure and manage multiple Junos OS devices within a network. You can manage and customize port profiles, and apply port profiles to your devices.
  • Service Now enables you to display and manage information about problem events. When problems are detected on the switch by Advanced Insight Scripts (AI-Scripts) that are installed on the switch, the data is collected and sent to Service Now for your review and action. This application is available only if you have a Juniper Networks service contract.
  • Service Insight provides proactive support in accelerating operational analysis and managing the exposure to known issues. You can identify devices that are nearing their end of life (EOL) and also discover and prevent issues that could occur in your network. The functionality of Service Insight is dependent on the information sent from Service Now. This application is available only if you have a Juniper Networks service contract.
  • Virtual Control is a web-based solution that enables you to manage virtual networks deployed in virtualized environments in data centers. It provides a single management interface for you to monitor and control the virtual and physical elements of the virtual environment.
  • IBM Systems Director and Junos Space Launch in Context (LiC) integrate the IBM Systems Director and Junos Space software to manage Juniper Networks devices.

Note: Before you can perform the tasks listed in Table 1, you must first ensure the configuration on the switch meets the requirements for device discovery in Junos Space. For more information, see Preparing the Switch for Junos Space Management.

Table 1 lists some device and network management tasks you can perform in Junos Space.

Bring the switch under Junos Space management (device discovery)

Note: Before the switch can be discovered in Junos Space, the following requirements must be met:

  • The switch configuration has a static management IP address that is reachable from the Junos Space server.
  • There is a user with full administrative privileges for Junos Space administration.
  • If you plan on using SNMP to probe devices as part of device discovery, SNMP is enabled with appropriate read-only v1/v2c/v3 credentials.
