Tutorial: Getting the Content You Need

Welcome to the Juniper Networks Technical Documentation Help. Our goal is to deliver content that helps you use our products.

Whether you are new to Juniper Networks, or an expert user, you might be wondering what the best path is to get the content that you need. Take this tutorial to learn how to get started.

Getting Oriented: The Technical Documentation Page

Technical documentation at Juniper Networks is organized hierarchically. The Juniper Networks Technical Documentation home page includes links for all of our products. From there, you can follow the links for individual products to view the documentation for a specific product, and then to a subset of categorized information about that product (for instance, information on hardware or information on software for a particular release). You can continue to navigate down until you find the specific piece of information you need.

Drilling Down: Searching for Content

One of the easiest ways to find content is to search based on keywords. You can use the following search options to locate the content you need:

  • Juniper website search–The Juniper Networks search engine (TechLibrary Search box) is available at the top of every page on the Juniper Networks Technical Documentation site. When you use the Juniper Networks search engine, you can filter the search results to quickly narrow down to the information you need.

On the search results page, you can use the Product, Format, Last Date Modified, and Language options in the left pane to narrow down the content that is displayed.

Want to perform more robust searches? See our tips for Searching for Technical Content with the Juniper Search Engine.

  • External search engine–We understand that many of you prefer to search for Juniper Networks technical documentation by using an external search engine, such as Google. Therefore, we have compiled a few tips on using Google. Read them here: Searching for Technical Content with Google.

If you want information about our Junos OS products, you can use our Content Explorer application to find it all in one place. Content Explorer is available on the left panel of every index page on the Juniper Networks Technical Documentation site. Content Explorer provides you with a single page where you can filter the Junos OS content you see based on your hardware device and the type of task that you want to accomplish.

Next Steps: Browsing for Specific Content

The Juniper Networks Technical Documentation site enables you to browse for technical documentation in a variety of ways, depending on how you prefer to achieve your goal.

When you select a product from the product categories listed on the Juniper Networks Technical Documentation home page, you access a product documentation page, which enables you to access the relevant software and hardware documentation for the product. This page also includes resources for support and links to additional literature.

Selecting a hardware platform leads you to the content pages. This example shows the overview page for the high availability feature in Junos OS.

Use the Table of Contents in the left pane to locate the content that describes the feature, procedure or reference information that you are looking for. The technology overview for a feature, the procedure to configure the feature, and the examples are organized together, so that you can find them easily. The documentation on configuration statements and commands for the feature are collected together in a separate section, and organized in alphabetical order.

Selecting a link on the Table of Contents pane leads you to the respective content page, which contains answers to the specific question that you have. In this example, selecting the Understanding High Availability Features on Juniper Networks Routers link in the Table of Contents gives you more information about the high availability features on Juniper’s routers.

Note: Junos OS is the common operating system that runs on Juniper’s routing, switching, and security products. It supports a standard set of features across products, and some product-specific features. Therefore, a single document might be shared across products.

Once you find the content you are looking for, you might decide you want to learn more. Here are a few highlights:

  • Breadcrumbs—The breadcrumbs, located under the TechLibrary Search box, shows your location on the Juniper website, and provides a navigation aid to go to the higher level pages in the TechLibrary.
  • Related Documentation links—The right panel on a page in the Juniper Networks Technical Documentation site includes a Related Documentation box, which contains hand-selected links to product documentation that is relevant to the current content. This tool is one of the best ways to determine which content to read next.
  • Download This Guide—The right panel on every page has a link, Download this guide:Feature, that allows you to download the entire guide in PDF format.
