Coordinated Threat Control Turns Remote
Access into Secure Access The
increased demands to provide secure remote access for employees,
partners and customers, combined with the proliferation of diverse
users, devices, and networks, can create a significant challenge for
IT departments. Add to that the escalating volume and sophistication
of threats from intentional and unintentional attacks, and serious
concerns surround the extension of enterprise access.
According to the 2005 FBI Computer Crime Survey, IT departments
conveyed a common theme of frustration: the nonstop barrage of
viruses, Trojans, worms, and spyware. The survey also stated that
there were over twice as many unauthorized access incidents coming
from outside the organization than there were from within. The
survey specifically underlined the importance of Intrusion
Prevention/Detection Systems as well as firewalls, logs, password
complexity, and other technology and physical security measures to
address the rapid growth of threats to any enterprise.

Belnet Seamlessly Upgrades Network
Infrastructure with Juniper Networks Belnet is the Belgian national research network and
provides network services to research and education establishments
across Belgium. Belnet customers include all the country’s
universities and research institutes, plus most of Belgium’s higher
education establishments. In all, Belnet has approximately 60
customers, with more than 550,000 end users comprising researchers,
academic staff and students.
The challenge was to upgrade the Belnet network seamlessly to
meet future forecast bandwidth and functionality requirements of
Belnet’s customers and to prepare the network in readiness for the
up-grade of the Pan-European Research Network, Géant. In common with
all other research and education network providers globally, Belnet
is faced with the challenge of providing a diverse range of online
services and features to its campus-based end users (for example,
IPv6, multi-cast etc.), but within a secure and assured
framework.

Belnet’s network has increased performance and capacity, allowing it
to deliver leading-edge services to meet the rigorous demands of the
next generation of research and education
applications.

WAFS White Paper Makes Case for WAN
Optimization This new white paper,
titled "The Evolution of Wide Area File Services (WAFS): Toward
Transparent, Comprehensive WAN Optimization," describes how WAFS
addresses the need to accelerate the transmission of certain files
or protocols over wide-area networks (WANs). However, in today's
distributed enterprise, where globalization and a proliferation of
branch offices is accompanied by corporate initiatives to centralize
business-critical applications to improve security, administration
and regulatory compliance, WAFS-only solutions can't deliver the
performance businesses need. Enterprises require a comprehensive WAN
optimization solution that accelerates the performance of all
business applications over the WAN to keep users happy and
productive. Download the WAFS white paper by clicking here.
WAN Acceleration Selection Criteria Guide
Titled "Success Testing Criteria for
a WAN Optimization Solution", this selection criteria guide defines
the characteristics, features and attributes customers should be
looking for in their WAN optimization solutions. Check out the
WAN Acceleration Selection Criteria Guide on the Literature
section of the WX web page.
