Net-Worm.Win32.Mytob.eg

19 Apr 2006 19:04:00 +0400

Kaspersky Lab is seeing an increase in emails which contain Net-Worm.Win32.Mytob.eg.

This worm was first detected on the 18th of April and it has become more prevalent since then.

Mytob.eg spreads via email addresses which it harvests from the victim machine. It connects to a certain IRC channel where it waits for commands such as downloading files from the IRC master. It also tries to kill security related processes and blocks access to security sites.

An antivirus update containing detection for Mytob.eg was released on 18 April. Users are strongly recommended to ensure that their antivirus databases are up to date.

A full description of Net-Worm.Win32.Mytob.eg is now available in the Kaspersky Virus Encyclopaedia.
