Title: DameWare Mini Remote Control Server Clear Text Encryption Key Disclosure Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

DameWare Mini Remote Control Server is a remote administration tool distributed and maintained by DameWare Development. It is available for the Microsoft Windows platform.

A vulnerability has been reported to exist in the application that may allow a remote attacker to gain access to the file encryption key. This could allow an attacker to disclose sensitive information such as user credentials.

The issue presents itself because the file encryption key is sent over the network in plain text format. An attacker can obtain the key by monitoring network traffic for a packet sent before an encrypted file is transferred. The key can be found in the last 16 byte string in the packet.

Dameware Mini Remote Control version 4.1.0.0 is reported to be affected by this issue, however, it is possible that prior versions are vulnerable as well.

This issue affects the 128-bit Windows Logon Authentication, Simple File Transfer Encryption, Encrypted General Data (keystrokes) and Encrypted Images features of the software.
