Title: DameWare Mini Remote Control Server Weak Encryption Implementation Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
DameWare Mini Remote Control Server is a remote administration tool distributed and maintained by DameWare Development. It is available for the Microsoft Windows platform.
DameWare Mini Remote Control Server has been reported to be prone to a weak encryption implementation. DameWare Mini Remote Control offers functionality to provide for a "128-bit" encrypted Windows logon method, this is reportedly implemented using the Blowfish encryption algorithm.
It has been reported that analysis of encrypted traffic used by the aforementioned functionality will reveal repeating patterns that indicate the use of ECB (Electronic Code Book) mode. By further analyzing these patterns an attacker may potentially derive the block cipher that is used by DameWare Mini Remote Control to encrypt the plaintext data. This may ultimately allow an attacker to determine the block cipher and thereby expose plaintext credentials.
This issue affects the 128-bit Windows Logon Authentication, Simple File Transfer Encryption, Encrypted General Data (keystrokes) and Encrypted Images features of the software.
