Title: PHP-Nuke Modules.php Multiple Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerabilities

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

PHP-Nuke is a freeware content management system. Implemented in PHP, it is available for a range of systems, including Unix, Linux, and Microsoft Windows.

Multiple cross-site scripting vulnerabilities have been identified in the application that may allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary HTML or script code in a user's browser. These vulnerabilities occur due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data via various fields of 'modules.php' script. Specifically, the 'Your Name', 'nicname', 'fname', 'ratenum', and 'search' fields are vulnerable to various cross-site scripting attacks. These issues could allow for execution of hostile HTML and script code in the web client of a user who visits a vulnerable web page. This would occur in the security context of the site hosting the software.

Exploitation could allow for theft of cookie-based authentication credentials. Other attacks are also possible.

PHP-Nuke 7.1.0 has been reported to be prone to these issues, however, it is possible that other versions are affected as well. These issues are undergoing further analysis. These issues will be separated into individual BIDs once analysis is complete.

Affected Products:

  • Francisco Burzi PHP-Nuke 7.1.0
