Title: VirtuaSystems VirtuaNews Admin.PHP Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
VirtuaNews is an interactive, custom web page creation application that allows users to develop original pages. The 'admin.php' script is a feature that allows administration of web applications created with the VirtuaNews package.
It has been reported that the 'admin.php' script of VirtuaNews is prone to a cross-site scripting vulnerability. This issue is due to a failure of the application to properly sanitize user supplied URI parameters.
The problem presents itself when a malevolent user passes HTML or script code of a nefarious nature through the 'title' parameter of the 'admin.php' script. When successfully exploited an attacker can execute arbitrary script and HTML code in the context of the vulnerable application.
The attacker supplied code is rendered in the victim's browser in the context of the affected application. This may allow an attacker to craft a malicious link, facilitating a cross-site scripting attack.
Attackers may exploit this vulnerability to steal authentication credentials. Other attacks may also be possible.
