Title: PhpGedView Search Script Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

PhpGedView is web-based geneology software that is implemented in PHP.

PhpGedView is prone to a cross-site scripting vulnerability. The vulnerability exists in the search script (search.php) included with the software. The cause of the vulnerability is that input supplied via the 'firstname' URI parameter is not sanitized of HTML and script code before being included in web page output. Remote attackers may create malicious links to this script that include hostile HTML and script code. If such a link was followed by a victim user, the attacker-supplied code would be rendered in the security context of the site hosting the software.

This could be exploited to steal cookie-based authentication credentials. Other attacks are also possible since the attacker may influence how the site is rendered to the victim user.

This issue is reported to affect PhpGedView 2.61. Other versions are also likely affected.

Affected Products:

  • PhpGedView PhpGedView 2.61.0
