Title: WebWasher Classic Error Message Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Description:

WebWasher Classic is a free Internet filtering software.

A vulnerability has been reported to present in the software that may allow a remote attacker to execute HTML or script code in a user's browser.

It has been reported that the problem arises when the software returns an error message to the user that may contain unsanitized data. This error message may be generated by sending a HTTP GET request containing script code to the proxy port (80 TCP) used by the software. The problem exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data, therefore making it possible for an attacker to a construct a malicious link containing HTML or script code that may be rendered in a user's browser. The script code would run in the context of the user running the vulnerable software. The software must be running in server mode for this issue to be remotely exploitable.

Successful exploitation of this attack may allow an attacker to steal cookie-based authentication information that could be used to launch further attacks.

WebWasher Classic versions 3.3 Build 44 and 2.2.1 are reported to be prone to this issue, however other versions may be affected as well.
