Title: Adobe SVG Viewer Active Scripting Security Bypass Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Adobe SVG Viewer (ASV) is an application for viewing Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) documents. It is available as a stand-alone product and may also be embedded in other applications such as web browsers.

ASV employs the Microsoft JScript interpreter in order to parse and execute script code embedded within SVG documents. SVG documents are able to interact with HTML documents by using the 'parent' property. This allows script contained within the SVG documents to control the contents of the 'parent' property.

It has been reported that ASV is prone to a vulnerability that may permit SVG documents to execute malicious active content. The vulnerability allows a malicious SVG document to bypass Active Scripting security settings; therefore making it possible for an attacker to render active content contained within SVG documents without the normal security restrictions. This could create a false sense of security if Active Scripting has been disabled or otherwise secured and may aid in exploitation of other vulnerabilities.

ASV 3.0 and prior are reported to be prone to this vulnerability.

Affected Products:

  • Adobe SVG Viewer 3.0.0
