Title: Sun Solaris SAdmin Client Credentials Remote Administrative Access Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

Solaris is the UNIX variant maintained and distributed by Sun Microsystems.

An issue in the Solaris 'sadmin' service may allow a remote user to gain unauthorized administrative access.

The problem is in the handling of authentication credentials. The 'sadmin' service fails to properly validate credentials supplied by the 'sadmin' client. Because of this, an attacker could supply a spoofed hostname and domain while accessing the service, circumventing any access restrictions the service may have in place.

Note that the sadmin service is enabled by default.

Affected Products:

  • Sun Solaris 2.6
  • Sun Solaris 2.6_x86
  • Sun Solaris 7.0
  • Sun Solaris 7.0_x86
  • Sun Solaris 8
  • Sun Solaris 8_x86
  • Sun Solaris 9
  • Sun Solaris 9_x86
  • Sun Trusted Solaris 7.0.0
  • Sun Trusted Solaris 7.0.0 x86
  • Sun Trusted Solaris 8.0.0
  • Sun Trusted Solaris 8.0.0 x86
