Title: McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator MSDE SA Account Information Disclosure Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) is a product designed to remotely manage various policies and antivirus products. It is available for the Microsoft Windows operating system.
The Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) is included in the ePO installation to store configuration information.
A remote attacker can obtain the username and encrypted password for the database administrator account (SA by default) of the MSDE installation.
When a specifically formatted HTTP request is sent to the ePO server, the server configuration file is returned. This file contains the username and encrypted password for the database administrator account. The problem is further compounded because the password is encrypted using a DES variant with a secret key stored in a DLL file, making the password easier to decrypt.
Once the attacker has access to the database administrator account, operating system commands may be executed on the server with System level privileges through the use of the xp_cmdshell stored procedure.
Affected Products:
- McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 2.0.0
- McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.0
- McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.0 SP1
- McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1
- McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 3.0.0
