Title: McAfee Security ePolicy Orchestrator ComputerList Format String Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) is a product designed to remotely manage various policies and antivirus products. It is available for the Microsoft Windows operating system.

A problem has been identified in the handling of ComputerList parameters by McAfee Security ePolicy Orchestrator. This may result in an attacker gaining unauthorized access to the vulnerable host.

The problem is in the handling of format strings. ePolicy Orchestrator does not properly filter format strings from the ComputerList parameter. Because of this, it is possible to write to arbitrary locations in memory and potentially overwrite sensitive data, which could ultimately lead to the execution of arbitrary code as the ePolicy Orchestrator. It should be noted that the ePolicy Orchestrator typically runs with SYSTEM privileges.

Affected Products:

  • McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 2.0.0
  • McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.0
  • McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.0 SP1
  • McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1
