Title: SquirrelMail global.php Cross Site Scripting Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
SquirrelMail is a standards-based webmail package written in PHP4. It is available for Linux and Unix based operating systems.
A cross-site scripting vulnerability has been discovered in SquirrelMail. The global.php script fails to adequately sanitize content passed to the strip_tags() function. Specifically, the user-supplied values for PHP_SELF variable are passed to the strip_tags() function but are not saved back to the variable.
An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by creating a specially crafted URL that includes malicious HTML code for pages that use the PHP_SELF as the FORM action.
This may allow for theft of cookie-based authentication credentials and other attacks.
