Title: Achrimede's Gftpd Remote Privilege Escalation Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Archimede's glftpd is an FTP daemon available for various operating systems. Global FTP files contained on the server are owned by the 'root' user. Accessing these files requires temporary privilege elevation of the user, by the server.
A vulnerabilty has been discovered in Archimede's glftpd which may allow an unauthorized user to obtain root privileges. When adding a 'oneliner' string to via the 'site onel k' command, root privileges are used to update the global FTP file 'oneliners'. It has been reported that glftpd fails to effectively drop privileges to the 'glftpd' user after updating the file.
Exploitation of this issue may allow an attacker to obtain an effective user identification of 'root'. It should be noted that the user would still be contained within the established FTP chroot environment.
