Title: Oracle Database Server ORACLE.EXE Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Oracle is a commercial database product which is available for a number of platforms including Microsoft Windows and Unix and Linux variants.
A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported for Oracle Database Server. The vulnerability has been reported to affect the 'ORACLE.EXE' kernel executable.
'ORACLE.EXE' does not implement sufficient bounds checking on data copied into local memory buffers. A remote user entering an excessively long username to log into the Oracle Database Server could cause this buffer to be overrun.
An attacker may exploit this problem to corrupt sensitive regions of memory, in an effort to execute arbitrary code. Code will be executed with the privileges of the underlying server; typically 'Orable' on Linux and UNIX systems and Local System on Windows NT/2000/XP systems. This issue may only be exploited if a client application does not place bounds limits on externally supplied data before passing it to Oracle.
