Title: Abyss Web Server Administrative Interface Failed Login Recording Weakness

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Abyss Web Server is a freely available personal web server. It is maintained by Aprelium Technologies and runs on Microsoft Windows operating systems, as well as Linux.

Abyss Web Server does not log failed authentication attempts. The server also does not limit the number of failed authentication attempts to the administrative interface. This will help to facilitate brute force attacks which attempt to compromise the interface.

As a result, a remote attacker will effectively have unlimited attempts to guess a valid username/password combination, and these attacks may potentially go undetected.

This administrative interface listens on port 9999 by default.

Affected Products:

  • Aprelium Technologies Abyss Web Server 1.0.7
  • Aprelium Technologies Abyss Web Server 1.1.2
