Title: Posadis DNS Request Question Section Denial Of Service Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Posadis is an open source implementation of a non caching DNS server. It is designed to be easy to use and configure. Posadis is available for Windows, Linux and many common Unix-like systems.
A denial of service vulnerability has been reported for Posadis. The vulnerability exists due to the way the DNS server processes certain DNS queries. Specifically, the server fails to verify whether the DNS query contains a question section. By making this assumption the server may attempt to access data within a non-existent buffer and access NULL memory, effectively causing it to crash.
An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a malformed DNS query to a Posadis server. When Posadis attempts to parse the request, it will fail and cause the server to crash.
This vulnerability affects Posadis server 0.50.4 to 0.50.8.
Affected Products:
- Posadis Posadis 0.50.4
- Posadis Posadis 0.50.5
