Title: Microsoft Outlook 2002 Email Header Processing Denial of Service Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Microsoft Outlook 2002 is a popular email, calendering, and scheduling application for Microsoft Windows.
Outlook 2002 is vulnerable to a denial of service condition due to problems with the processing of email headers.
If an email message is received containing particularly malformed headers, Outlook 2002 will be unable to process them and fail. The email message does not have to be opened or read for this condition to occur; simply receiving the message will cause the client to fail. This vulnerability affects clients using IMAP, POP3, and WebDAV protocols to retrieve mail from the server.
Additionally, as long as the message containing the malformed headers remains on the mail server, Outlook will continue to fail whenever it attempts to download the message. The message would have to be removed by a server administrator or deleted through another email client.
