Title: D-Link DSL-500 Default Telnet Password Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
The DSL-500 is a broadband router appliance distributed by D-Link.
A problem with DSL-500 routers could lead to weakened security policy, and potentially arbitrary access.
The DSL-500 includes a telnet administration interface. This interface allows for the remote administration of the device, and can be used to alter configuration settings.
The DSL-500 does not allow the changing of the default telnet password. In the event that an arbitrary user gains access to the telnet password and interface, it would be impossible to restrict unauthorized access by changing the password. This could result in unauthorized access, denial of service, or other problems.
It is not known whether remote administration via telnet is enabled by default. It has been reported that the default password is the string 'private'.
Affected Products:
- D-Link DSL-500 1.14.0
