Title: HP JFS Improper Sticky Bit Functionality Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

A vulnerability has been discovered in HP JFS.

The sticky bit is an optional file property, which when set, prevents moving and/or renaming a file that is not explicitly owned by the user. This prevents users from modifying world/group writeable files.

It has been reported that JFS implements improper sticky bit functionality, which may allow a malicious user to modify properties of sensitive files, which they would not normally be authorized to access.

HP has released a revised advisory stating that this issue affects the JournalFS.VXFS-BASE-KRN fileset and not just OnlineJFS.

Affected Products:

  • HP JFS 3.1.0
