Title: WebEasyMail POP3 Server Valid User Name Information Disclosure Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
WebEasyMail is a MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) designed for use with Microsoft Windows NT, 2000 and XP operating systems.
An issue has been discovered in WebEasyMail's POP3 server which may make it easier for remote attackers to verify the existence of user accounts.
In particular, it is trivial for an attacker to determine if a username exists or not. When a user authenticates against the POP3 server using an invalid username followed by a password, WebEasyMail gives the following feedback:
-ERR invalid username
This issue allows the attacker to determine which usernames are valid. The attacker may then attempt a brute-force attack in an attempt to crack the passwords of valid usernames.
