Title: LibPNG Malformed PNG Image Memory Corruption Vulnerability

Description:
The libpng graphics library is vulnerable to a memory corruption error when viewing some malformed PNG images. This issue is due to a buffer overflow in functions related to progressive image loading. It is reported that this condition occurs when there is more IDAT data than indicated by the IHDR chunk in a PNG datastream.
It may prove possible to exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code as the user of an application which calls the vulnerable functions in the library. Exploitation in this fashion may allow a remote attacker to gain local access to the vulnerable system by supplying a maliciously crafted PNG file. At the very minimum, this issue may be exploited to create a denial of service in applications which use the vulnerable shared library functions.
Some web browsers (such as Opera, Konqueror and Mozilla) rely on this library to handle PNG images. This is particularly a concern since the default behavior of these browsers is to display any images encountered. Some web browser implementations may allow the user to disable automatic loading of certain image types.
