Title: Netscape core file Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Netscape navigator on unix platforms (Linux, solaris ..) have a vulnerability that allows for information, if the conditions are right, that was stored in navigator's memory, to be read after a segmentation fault. When netscape navigator dumps core, all of the htaccess/ftp username and password information is stored plaintext in the core. Running strings on the core file will list them, as well as everything in the user's environment, the history and bookmarks. If the user's umask and the permissions of the homedirectory are set incorrectly, the core file can become world readable.
Affected Products:
- Netscape Communicator 0.0.04.06
- Netscape Communicator 4.5.0
