Title: CGIScript.net csPassword.CGI Password.CGI.TMP File Disclosure Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

CGIScript.net provides various webmaster related tools and is maintained by Mike Barone and Andy Angrick.

A vulnerability has been reported in the csPassword.cgi script developed by CGIScript.net. It is possible for a user to obtain access to the temporary file, generated by the script, containing usernames and unencrypted passwords.

When csPassword.cgi saves, deletes or otherwise modifies its data file, it creates a file called 'password.cgi.tmp' that contains all the usernames and unencrypted passwords. This file may be readable by web users thus it is possible for a determined attacker to request this file. There is only a narrow window of opportunity for an attacker to access the file before the temporary file is renamed and deleted.

The information obtained by an attacker may be used to mount further attacks against the vulnerable system.

Affected Products:

  • CGISCRIPT.NET csPassword 1.0.0
