Title: FreeBSD Accept Filter Denial of Service Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
FreeBSD includes a feature called 'accept filters'. These filters are designed to preprocess incoming data before it is read by applications. One application of this feature is the HTTP accept filter. The HTTP accept filter does not pass data to the application reading from the socket until a complete HTTP request has been received.
It has been reported that it is possible to deny access to a service when accept filters are in use. This occurs because of an error in the implementation of these filters. It is possible to fill the incomplete connection queue by sending repeated 'incomplete' requests (for example, partial HTTP requests).
Until the connections time out or are completed, other clients will not be able to access the service.
Affected Products:
- FreeBSD FreeBSD 4.5.0 -RELEASE
