Title: Oracle 8i dbsnmp Command Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Oracle 8i is an enterprise level database solution. It is available on a wide variety of platforms, including many Unix operating systems.
Oracle includes an SNMP service. The commands dbsnmp_start and dbsnmp_stop allow an administrator to start and stop this service. The Oracle documentation states that these commands should only be called locally.
It is possible to submit both of these commands to the TNS listener service. When received, they may cause Oracle or some Oracle related services to stop responding, resulting in a denial of service condition.
There have been some reports that it is possible to execute arbitrary code through this vulnerability, possibly in conjunction with other issues.
