Title: Shingo beep2 Arbitrary File Reading Vulnerability

Severity: LOW

Description:

beep2 is a utility included with some linux distributions. This program is a warning-tone type program that accepts command line input and generates tones. If installed suid root, it allows reading of arbitrary files. This is done by including the name of the file to be read on the command line. This feature is included to allow preset tone options to be read from a file, but because the files contents are output in error messages when this file format is invalid it can be used to read files for which the user does not have read access. This ONLY affects systems on which beep2 is installed suid root.
