Title: Helix Player Encoded URI Processing Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Helix Player is a media player available for Linux, BSD, and Solaris.

The application is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied input. Specifically, the application assumes that '%' characters in URIs are always followed by exactly two additional characters. When decoding URIs that contain a '%' within the last two characters of the string, the application will fail to detect the end of the string, resulting in a buffer overflow.

Successful exploits may allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application. Failed exploit attempts will cause denial-of-service conditions.
