Title: ActiveState ActivePerl Path Revealing Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
ActivePerl is an implementation of the Perl scripting language for Microsoft Windows systems developed by ActiveState.
A vulnerability exists that could allow a malicious user to view the full path to the web root. If the malicious user were to send the ActivePerl host a request for a non-existant .pl file, the server would return a message containing path information to the web root.
An HTTP request for
http://target.com/folder/cgi-bin/unknown.pl
would yield a message containing a path similar to:
c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\cgi-bin\unknown.pl : No such file or directory
The disclosed information may be used to maliciously map out the directory structure of the host, facilitating further "intelligent" attacks on the host.
