Title: Oracle9iAS Web Cache Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Oracle9iAS Web Cache is a web caching solution for Oracle 9iAS Application Server, providing quick retrieval of dynamic web content.

Unsafe permissions exist when attempting to invoke Oracle9iAS Web Cache via $ORACLE_HOME/webcache/bin/webcached.

If a user launches Oracle9iAS Web Cache via '$ORACLE_HOME/webcache/bin/webcached', it is possible for the user to gain escalated privileges. The user could modify environment variables and configuration files with user 'oracle' privileges. The 'webcached' Oracle file by default runs setuid.

Affected Products:

  • Oracle Oracle9i Application Server Web Cache 2.0.0 .0.0
  • Oracle Oracle9i Application Server Web Cache 2.0.0 .0.1
  • Oracle Oracle9i Application Server Web Cache 2.0.0 .0.2
