Title: Oracle9iAS Web Cache Null Character Denial Of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Oracle9iAS Web Cache is a web caching solution for Oracle 9iAS Application Server, providing quick retrieval of dynamic web content.

Oracle 9iAS Web Cache is unable to handle certain types of requests, making it prone to denial of service attacks.

It is possible for a remote attacker to cause a denial of service by making multiple malicious requests for the Web Cache service (via TCP ports 1100, 4000, 4001, and 4002). Multiple requests containing an excessive number of NULL characters ('%00') will cause the service to shutdown.

The Web Cache service must be started to regain normal functionality.

Affected Products:

  • Oracle Oracle9i Application Server Web Cache 2.0.0 .0.0
  • Oracle Oracle9i Application Server Web Cache 2.0.0 .0.1
  • Oracle Oracle9i Application Server Web Cache 2.0.0 .0.2
  • Oracle Oracle9i Application Server Web Cache 2.0.0 .0.2 NT
