Title: Pimppa Open Database Access Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Pimppa is a collection of software designed to automatically extract binary files from various sources. Although initially created to strip binary files from usenet feeds, it is now able to process ftp and irc based servers. It requires a MySQL database.

The database tables used by Pimppa are owned by the MySQL user 'pimppa'. Earlier versions of Pimppa did not function correctly if a password was assigned to the 'pimppa' user. As a result, anyone with access to the MySQL database would be able to freely view and modify the data required by Pimppa.

A malicious attacker with access to the MySQL database will be able to trivially prevent Pimppa from functioning, and may be able to make subtle changes in order to subvert the rules Pimppa uses for file acquisition.

Earlier versions of Pimppa may share this vulnerability.
