Title: FireStats WordPress Plugin Multiple Cross Site Scripting and Authentication Bypass Vulnerabilities

Severity: HIGH

Description:

FireStats is a statistic tracking plugin for the WordPress content manager.

FireStats is prone to these remote vulnerabilities:

1. An authentication-bypass vulnerability occurs because the plugin fails to restrict unauthorized users from accessing the 'firestats/php/ajax-handler.php' administrative script.

2. A cross-site scripting vulnerability because the plugin fails to sufficiently sanitize user-supplied input to the 'action' parameter of the 'firestats/php/ajax-handler.php' script.

3. Multiple cross-site scripting vulnerabilities because the plugin fails to sufficiently sanitize user-supplied input passed to unspecified scripts via the 'UserAgent' field.

An attacker may leverage these issues to gain unauthorized access to the affected application and execute arbitrary script code in the browser of an unsuspecting user in the context of the affected site. This may allow the attacker to steal cookie-based authentication credentials and to launch other attacks.

FireStats 1.0.2 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • FireStats FireStats 1.0.2
