Title: PHP Versions Prior to 5.3.1 Multiple Vulnerabilities
Severity: HIGH
Description:
PHP is a general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for web development and can be embedded into HTML.
The following security issues have been identified:
1. An unspecified input-validation vulnerability affects 'exif' processing.
2. An unspecified issue is related to 'popen' and invalid modes.
3. An unspecified issue is related to 'safe_mode_include_dir'.
4. A denial-of-service issue is related to uploading a large number of files. Specifically, when sending a post request to a PHP script that contains the content type of 'multipart/form-data' and includes a list of files in the request, PHP will create a temporary file for each request submitted. If an attacker sends an excessive number of requests, the webserver will stop responding.
5. A denial-of-service vulnerability affects the 'php_com_locate_typeinfo()' function in the 'ext/com_dotnet/com_typeinfo.c' source file.
6. Additional, unspecified issues with possible security implications are also present.
These issues affect PHP 5.3 prior to 5.3.1; some issues also affect PHP 5.2 prior to 5.2.12.
UPDATE (December 7, 2009): Information regarding the vulnerability affecting 'posix_mkfifo()' (CVE-2009-3558) has been removed from this BID and is now documented in BID 36554 (PHP 'posix_mkfifo()' 'open_basedir' Restriction Bypass Vulnerability).
