Title: Novell eDirectory '/dhost/httpstk' Multiple Stack Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Novell eDirectory is software for identity management and security.

The application is prone to multiple stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerabilities because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. Specifically, the issues occur when excessive data is passed via the 'sadminpwd' and 'verifypwd' parameters of an HTTP request to '/dhost/httpstk'. To exploit these issues, attackers must authenticate with the vulnerable application.

A remote attacker can exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will likely cause denial-of-service conditions.

Novell eDirectory 8.8 SP5 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • Novell eDirectory 8.8
