Title: KDE Multiple Input Validation Vulnerabilities
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
KDE (K Desktop Environment) is a desktop for Unix variants.
KDE is prone to multiple input-validation vulnerabilities:
1. Ark (KDE's archiving tool) fails to properly validate specially crafted archive files. An unknown MIME type may be used to make requests via 'XMLHTTPRequests()' to a malicious website.
2. IO Slaves fails to validate certain protocol handlers, allowing an attacker to inject JavaScript code via a crafted URI.
3. IO Slaves is prone to a directory-traversal vulnerability in the 'help://' protocol handler.
4. Kmail fails to properly validate unknown MIME types in email attachments. A specially crafted email may be used to make requests via 'XMLHTTPRequests()' to a malicious website.
An attacker can exploit these issues by tricking an unsuspecting victim into opening a malicious file. A successful attack will allow arbitrary attacker-supplied JavaScript to run in the context of the victim running the affected application.
