Title: python-markdown2 Multiple Security Vulnerabilities

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Markdown is a text-to-HTML filtering application; 'python-markdown2' is a Python-based implementation of Markdown.

The module is prone to these vulnerabilities:

1. A cross-site scripting vulnerability occurs because the application fails to sufficiently sanitize user-supplied input. An attacker can exploit this issue via a crafted image reference to run arbitrary script code in the browser of an unsuspecting user in the context of the affected site. This may let the attacker steal cookie-based authentication credentials and launch other attacks.

2. An unspecified security affects the md5-hashing scheme for handling HTML chunks. The impact of this issue is unknown.

These issues affects python-markdown2 1.0.1.14 and earlier.

Affected Products:

  • RedHat Fedora 10
  • RedHat Fedora 11
  • python-markdown2 python-markdown2 1.0.1.14
