VLC is a cross-platform media player.
VLC media player is prone to multiple stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerabilities because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. The following source files and functions are affected:
'modules/demux/asf/libasf.c': 'ASF_ObjectDumpDebug()'
'modules/demux/avi/libavi.c': '_AVI_ChunkFree()', 'ASF_ObjectDumpDebug()'
'modules/demux/mp4/libmp4.c': '__MP4_BoxDumpStructure()'
These issues may be triggered when the vulnerable application opens malformed 'ASF', 'AVI', or 'MP4' media files.
Attackers can exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected application or crash the application, denying service to legitimate users.
VLC media player 1.0.1 is vulnerable; prior versions may also be affected.
