Title: Opera Web Browser prior to 10 Multiple Security Vulnerabilities
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Opera Web Browser is a browser that runs on multiple operating systems.
Opera is prone to the following security issues:
1. A security issue occurs because Opera fails to check the revocation status for intermediate certificates not served by the server. This may cause sites using revoked intermediate certificates to be shown as secure.
2. A security issue related to the collapsed address bar may cause the previous domain to be temporarily shown, rather than the domain of the present site.
3. A security vulnerability occurs because certain Unicode characters are treated incorrectly, which might cause international domain names that use them to be shown in the wrong format. Attackers may exploit this to perform limited spoofing attacks using International Domain Names (IDN).
4. A security-bypass vulnerability occurs because the browser fails to properly validate the domain name in a signed CA certificate. Specifically, CA certificates for wildcard top-level domain or domains containing a NULL character may be incorrectly interpreted as secure.
Successful exploits may allow attackers to perform spoofing and man-in-the-middle attacks or impersonate trusted servers, which will aid in further attacks.
Versions prior to Opera 10 are vulnerable.
NOTE: Opera 10 provides various security enhancements and addresses numerous bugs that may also be security related.
