Title: Citrix MetaFrame False IP Address Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Citrix MetaFrame is a remote application server used for terminal service type environments.
When a connection is made between a remote client and a MetaFrame host, a protocol developed by Citrix (ICA protocol) is used. This protocol is used specifically to ensure a client's secure connection to the host.
An issue exists in MetaFrame, which could allow a user to have a false IP addresss logged. When a client connects, the client host name and network address are transmitted as part of the ICA Protocol.
When Terminal Services logs the client connection, the address supplied by the client is logged instead of the address that could be obtained from the TCP/IP implementation. Since the client application provides this address, it is possible for a client to have any IP address logged instead of their real one.
An administrator can obtain the real network address of any client using other utilities, such as 'netstat'.
Affected Products:
- Citrix MetaFrame for Windows 2000 1.8.0
- Citrix MetaFrame for Windows NT 4.0 TSE 1.8.0
