Title: Netscape For MacOS Password Field Printing Vulnerability

Severity: LOW

Description:

Netscape is a freely available web browser, distributed by Netscape Communications. It is designed for functionality on multiple platforms.

A vulnerability has been discovered in Netscape which may allow an attacker with physical access to a host to learn the passwords for web services of a user who is logged into the host.

When webpages viewed in Netscape are printed out, and the pages contain password fields, it may be possible to retrieve passwords from a page.

When passwords have been entered in a form field, but are occluded, the passwords will be revealed in plain text if the page is printed. This has been confirmed with Netscape 4.77, and it is possible that earlier versions are affected.

Affected Products:

  • Netscape Netscape 4.77.0 Mac
