Title: Cisco 12000 Series Turbo ACL Fragment Bypass Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Cisco IOS is the router firmware included with numerous devices manufactured by Cisco Systems.

Cisco 12000 Series Internet Routers are prone to an issue which may cause certain ACL rules to be ignored.

The keyword "fragment" in a compiled ACL will be ignored in the case of packets that are addressed to the router itself, which may allow restricted network traffic to be directed to the router.

As a result, it may be possible for an attacker to bypass security policy and communicate with the router (ie, access ports thought to be protected by the ACLs).

Cisco has assigned Vulnerability CSCdu57417 to this issue.

Affected Products:

  • Cisco IOS 12.0S
  • Cisco IOS 12.0ST
